Juniors Earn All-Region Honors

The duo becomes the second and third Miners in program history to receive All-Region honors, joining Kari Stacy who made the squad in 2005.
Horton was one of two outside hitters that was named to the team and makes her first appearance on an All-Region team. The junior started in all 29 matches this season. Horton is ranked 25th in the nation in points per set (4.92) and 28th in kills per set (4.3). She not only leads the team in kills, but also secured the No. 2 spot in the UTEP recordbook for total kills (469) registered in a single season. She rates second on the team in hitting percentage (.296) and third in blocks (79).
The outside hitter is ranked in Conference USA for kills (4.30-3rd), hitting percentage (9th) and points (4.92-3rd). She has recorded double-digit kill performances in 28 out of 29 matches, including a career-high 23 against Rice. She has totaled five 20 or more kill performances this season and ranks first all time for hitting percentage in five sets (.567-Fresno St.) and second for hitting percentage in four sets (.633-Southern Miss). Horton was named All-C-USA first team honoree, C-USA Offensive Player of the Week and was selected to three All-Tournament teams during her 2012 campaign.
Herrera makes her second appearance on the All-Region team; in 2011 the junior was named an All-Region Honorable Mention.
The middle blocker is an all-around competitor and is one of two C-USA players that is a middle blocker and plays all six rotations. She has started in all 29 matches this season and leads the team in hitting percentage (.300) and is second in kills (333), digs (290), blocks (101) and aces (20). She helped UTEP secure the No. 62 spot in the nation for hitting percentage (.236).
Herrera has registered 10 double-doubles this season for UTEP, including an impressive 17 kills and 15 digs versus Tulsa where she led the squad’s defense and offense. She has earned three spots in the UTEP recordbook for hitting percentage in three sets (.647-4th), hitting percentage in four sets (.556-3rd) and (.542-4th). She has totaled 10 or more kills in 19 matches and 10 or more digs in 15 matches during her 2012 campaign. This season, Herrera was named C-USA Defensive and Offensive Player of the Week and received C-USA All-Academic honors. The junior concluded the season, as she became the second Miner in program history to earn back-to-back All-C-USA first team honors.
The juniors are now eligible to earn All-American honors, which will be announced on Wednesday, December 12.
