UTEP to Honor Figueroa and Joyce on Senior Night

EL PASO – UTEP volleyball’s Stephanie Figueroa and Marie-Therese Joyce will play their final home match in a UTEP uniform when the Miners face UCF on Tuesday at 7 p.m. in Memorial Gym.

Admission is free to fans that wear white. Otherwise, tickets are $5 for adults and $3 for children 12 and under at the door.

Joyce is a four-year letterwinner and Figueroa played two seasons on the UTEP squad after transferring from Iowa Western Community College.

The Miners (19-13, 9-10) are heading into their final match of their 2011 campaign against UCF (19-11, 11-8). The UTEP squad is returning home after dropping a pair of matches on the road at SMU and Tulsa.

Leading the Miners defense is Figueroa who has registered a season total of 555 digs and holds the second-highest mark in the UTEP recordbooks for season total digs. The senior is averaging a stellar 4.78 digs per set and averages 0.36 at the service line.

Highlighting the UTEP squad is sophomores Xitlali Herrera and Jeane Horton who have proven to be a threat on the court. Herrera leads the Miners with 378 kills, averages a .330 hitting efficiency and 129 blocks (11s/118a). Horton has posted 374 kills and 70 blocks (16s/54a).

The Knights are coming off a 3-2 victory over SMU last Sunday in which Angelica Crump tied her career-high with 24 kills. The sophomore leads UCF in kills with 481 kills (4.29 per set). Senior Rachel Vukson recorded her 15th double-double of the season with 52 assists and 15 digs. Vukson has tallied 1336 assists (11.93 per set), 289 digs (2.58) and 25 service aces (0.22 per set).
