EL PASO, Texas - The 13th-ranked New Mexico State Aggies defeated the Miners in three games (30-28, 30-21, 30-21) to win the Battle of I-10 on Tuesday at Memorial Gym. NMSU improves its record to 20-4 while the Miners fall to 8-17, 2-11 in Conference USA action.

El Paso locals, Catherine Chavez (Eastwood) and Amy Sanders (Burgess), each recorded 11 kills for the Miners. Both also had 11 digs for double-doubles.

NMSU's Kim Oguh of El Paso (Hanks) slammed a match-high 13-kills. Whitney Phillips notched 11 kills and Lindsey Yon and Amber Simpson tallied 10.

Elsa Reyes recorded 13 digs for the match. She now ranks second in UTEP recordbooks with 1,167 digs. Reyes needs just 202 digs to become UTEP's all-time digs leader.

The Miners came out strong against the Aggies, hitting with an efficiency of .222 in the first frame while landing 17 kills. But, New Mexico State hit .318 and pounded 18 kills to defeat the Miners 30-28.

UTEP improved in Game 2, going 14-of-39 with four errors for a .256 hitting efficiency. Despite the improvement, NMSU slammed 21 kills and hit .404 in the game to win 30-21.

Both teams struggled in the final frame but the Aggies maintained for the 330-21 win.

The Miners will be back in action on Friday, Nov. 2 at 7 p.m. in Memorial Gym. They close their home season on Sunday, Nov. 4 at noon. Christie Murphy and Megan Maynard will be honored.
