Volleyball Set to Host Texas Tech

Fresh off a 2-2 third-place finish at the Fiesta Bowl Tournament over the weekend, the UTEP volleyball team will play host the Texas Tech Red Raiders Tuesday night at Memorial Gym.

The UTEP (3-4) offense has been led by redshirt freshman Nina Reeves who has a team leading 81 kills and 101 points. The Gilbert, Ariz., native was named to both the Borderland Invitational and Fiesta Bowl all-tournament teams.

Over the weekend senior outside hitter Jennifer Abbruzzese became the school's all-time kills leader passing the previous record of 1,181 set by Cynthia Ruelas-Macias (1993-1997). For her efforts she was selected to the Fiesta Bowl all-tournament team.

Texas Tech (7-0) is off to one of the best starts in school history having won the Islander Invitational and Big Orange Bash. The Red Raiders are led by junior Kelly Johnson who is averaging 6.28 kills per game and has a team best 12 service aces.

The Miners and Raiders have met 21 times since the 1976 season with UTEP trailing the series, 18-3. Tech has won the last six matches dating back to 1993.
