UTEP Volleyball to Host Intrasquad Scrimmage

EL PASO - UTEP fans will get their first opportunity to see the 2010 edition of the UTEP volleyball team in its annual intrasquad scrimmage on Saturday at 5 p.m. in Memorial Gym. The event is free and open to the public with a meet and greet immediately following.
The Miners return two starters and five letterwinners from the 2009 squad and welcome six newcomers - one junior transfer and five true freshmen. Highlighting the team is senior veteran Patty Jarmoc who enters her final campaign ranked fourth all-time in career assists with 3,187. The native from Calgary, Alberta, Canada needs 1,024 in 2010 to become UTEP's all-time career assists leader. She also enters the year rated fifth in career service aces with 110. Defensive standout Jennifer Nolasco returns for her senior campaign after posting a team-high 329 digs as a junior. She posted 15 double-digit dig performances including four 20-dig matches. She was named the C-USA Defensive Player of the Week on Sept. 28 after collecting a career-high 32 digs against Tulsa. UTEP, who finished 11-18 (4-12 C-USA) a season ago, led their opponents in hitting percentage (.206), aces (131), digs (1425) and blocks (270). UTEP recorded the highest attendance in the league, gathering a collective audience of 12,635 including 7,246 in home matches. The Miners begin their 2010 slate in Durham, N.C. on Aug. 27, when they take part in the Hilton RTP/NCCU Tournament. UTEP welcomes I-10 rival NM State in its home opener on Tuesday, Sept. 7 at 7 p.m. in Memorial Gym. ---UTEP---
