Miners Beat ECU on Senior Day

El Paso, Texas- The UTEP volleyball team concluded the regular season with a win against East Carolina, 3-0 (30-28, 25-20, 25-23) on Sunday.
The Miners were led by Xitlali Herrera as she captured her 11th double-double of the season with a match high 15 kills and 11 digs. The senior also contributed one solo block and three block assists to post 18.5 points for UTEP. Malia Patterson added power to the Miner offense as she secured 45 assists.
The first set began with intensity as the teams fought point for point tying the score eight times. With the score knotted up at 28, a kill by Talia Jones followed by an ECU error gave the first set to the Miners.
The Orange and Blue continued its success in the second stanza as UTEP posted a .343 hitting percentage while holding East Carolina to a .190.
The Pirates took off with a 14-9 advantage in the final set, but the Miners remained focused as they slowly chipped away at ECU’s lead. Tied at 22, a kill by Herrera allowed the Miners to take a one point lead. With a consecutive kill from Herrera, followed by a Pirate error UTEP would ultimately take the set and the match.
Finished at home, UTEP will now travel to Murfreesboro, Tenn. to compete in the C-USA Tournament where the Miners will face off against Southern Miss on Thursday at 11 a.m. (MT). The match will be broadcasted on the C-USA Digital Network.
