EL PASO, Texas – The UTEP volleyball team dropped Friday night’s match to Marshall 3-0 (25-23, 29-27, 25-20) in front of a season-high crowd of 1,204 at Memorial Gym.

 

The Miners fell in the first set despite combining for a .400 hitting percentage, the Thundering Herd hit .536.

 

A determined team bounced back to take control of the second set as the Miners never trailed. Up 19-14, Marshall downed four straight kills and a service ace before tripping on a serving error to get within two at 20-18. UTEP fought back and had five chances to tie the match, the Herd would not go away and two kills from junior Kristin Marcum gave Marshall a 2-0 lead.

 

The Thundering Herd carried the momentum to the third set outhitting the Miners 16 kills to 10. Marshall improved to 10-8 for the season and 3-5 in C-USA play. UTEP fell to 5-15 and 1-6.

UTEP will next face East Carolina on Sunday at noon at Memorial Gym.
