Bloczynska Cracks ITA Southwest Region Rankings
By virtue of a tremendous fall season, UTEP sophomore tennis player Weronika Bloczynska has earned a spot in the Intercollegiate Tennis Association (ITA) Southwest Region Rankings. She was placed 28th in the region, it was announced by the organization this week.
Bloczynska’s recognition is merited, as she compiled a record of 10-3 in singles action. She was equally impressive when playing doubles, posting a 8-4 mark when joined by Katherine Palider. Bloczynska’s highlights during the fall campaign included magical run at the Wilson/ITA Southwest Regional.
At that tournament, she notched four victories in the initial two days of the event tournament to blast into the round of 32 of the main draw. Although Bloczynska was bounced out, she found redemption with a convincing victory against a player from Southeastern Conference power LSU in the consolation round.
The 10 victories are just two shy of her sum compiled during the entire 2004-05 campaign. The achievements from the fall are even more impressive considering that Bloczynska had not played competitive tennis for more than a year following a serious injury.
The Miner tennis team is in the midst of its winter break. It will return to action at the UCF Blind Duals from Jan. 19-21, 2007.
