UTEP Tennis to Complete Fall Season at Lobo Invite

EL PASO, Texas - The UTEP tennis team will travel to Albuquerque, N.M. to compete in the Lobo Fall Invitational at the Linda Estes Tennis Complex. The three-day event will start at 10 a.m. MT on Friday, Nov. 1 and will wrap up on Nov. 3.

The Miners will compete against Colorado, Grand Canyon University, host New Mexico, Northern Arizona and Texas Tech.

In the doubles draw, senior Rebeca Calvillo and junior Davina Meza will face off against Colorado's Nuria Ormeno and Winde Jannens in the Cherry Flight. Also in the Cherry Flight, senior Marie LeBlond and freshman Daphne Visscher will square off against Julyette Steur and Ashley Tiefel of Colorado. Sophomore Matilda Rose Tench and junior Anastasiya Sylenko are matched with New Mexico's Susie Baklini and Emily Olivier in the Silver Flight. All matches begin at 10 a.m.

On the singles side, Calvillo will face Ormeno (11:30 a.m.), while Meza will take on Lizette Blankers of New Mexico (1 p.m.) in the Cherry Flight. In the Black Flight, Tench will face Texas Tech's Claire Williams (11:30 a.m.) and Sylendo will play New Mexico's Madison Porter (11:30 a.m.). The Silver Flight features Visscher taking on Olivier (11:30 a.m.), while LeBlond is matched against Texas Tech's Sara Toti (1 p.m.). Sophomore Jamie-Leigh Michau will face another Red Raider in Beatriz Santos (1 p.m.) in the Turquoise Flight.



This will be UTEP's fourth weekend of competitive play during the fall the season. In the Miners' last event, Calvillo and Meza both completed at the ITA Regional at TCU on Oct. 17 & 18. The duo won their first doubles match, 8-3, over North Texas' Ana Sofia Cordero and Kamilla Galieva in the round of 64, but fell to the eventual double's champions No. 41 Breaunna Addison and Pippa Horn of Texas, 8-5, in the next round. Calvillo advanced to the round of 32 on the singles side before falling to No. 97 Jordaan Sanford of Baylor, 6-0, 6-0.
