UTEP Tennis Travels to Tucson for Tourney

EL PASO, Texas - The UTEP tennis team will play in its second tournament of the fall season when they travel to Tucson, Ariz. for the 2013 Wildcat Invitational at El Conquistador Golf and Tennis Resort. The three-day event will begin on Friday, Oct. 11 with matches starting at 10 a.m. MT (9 a.m. Pacific) each day.

The other schools competing include Northern Arizona, NM State, Cal State Northridge, Iowa State and UTSA in a multiple-bracket, featuring both singles and doubles.

The tournament will start with one round of doubles on Friday, followed by two rounds of singles. Saturday will include two rounds of singles and one round of doubles and Sunday will determine the championship with one round of singles and one round of doubles.

The Miners faired well at the NM State Aggie Invitational (Sept. 13-15). Junior transfer Davina Meza won the Acoma Flight Championship. Sophomore Matilda Rose Tench advanced to the Taos Flight Championship before falling in two sets. Freshman Daphne Visscher won the Zia Flight consolation final and Anastasiya Sylenko won the consolation final of the Taos Flight.
