Four Members Of UTEP Tennis To Compete At Midland Tournament
Oct. 9, 2008
Amber Brightly, Vicky Michaud, Megan Pritchard and Martina Trierweiler are set to take part in the 2008 Midland Tennis Tournament at the Racquet Club of Midland from Friday through Sunday. UTEP joins the likes of Abilene Christian, Baylor, Boise State, Miami (Fla.), Miami (Ohio), Nebraska, North Texas, Pepperdine, Rice, Texas A&M, Texas Tech and UT-Arlington in helping comprise a talent-laden field.
The tournament will be contested in a format consistent with fall events (flighted singles and doubles), with action commencing at 9 a.m. on Friday.
Trierweiler will battle Texas Tech’s Stephanie Peana while Brightly will square off against the Lady Raiders’ Samantha van der Drift. Michaud will take on Madura Ranganathan of North Texas.
The Miners were originally slated to compete in a tournament in Houston this weekend, but that event was postponed to a later date. Undeterred, head coach Jamie Campbell managed to secure a spot in the Midland Tournament. She also added the New Mexico Tournament (Oct. 16-19) to the fall slate.
The effort by Campbell assures that UTEP is able gain more match experience prior to the prestigious ITA Southwest Regional (Oct. 23-26). Furthermore, the Orange and Blue will be able to avoid being idle for more than a month, which would have been their fate were it not for Campbell’s actions.
Results will be available following the conclusion of play each day at www.utepathletics.com.
