UTEP Downed By Colorado State, 5-2
FORT COLLINS, Colo. The UTEP tennis team was defeated by Colorado State, 5-2, at the Rolland Moore Racquet Complex Friday afternoon.
UTEP (5-12) was playing with a complete six-person lineup for the first time in five matches.
UTEP was edged out in the chase for the doubles points dropping the top two matches.
Ta Spirta and Danielle King earned a 8-4 win at the No. 3 spot moments before Katherine Palider and Teri Wilkerson were defeated, 8-3, at the No. 2 slot.
In the deciding doubles match, UTEP's Weronika Bloczynska and Kendall Exelby were tied with CSU’s Anne Andersen and Emily Kirchem, 7-7, but lost the final two games as CSU won the point with a 9-7 score.
In singles play, CSU led 3-0 after getting wins at the No. 3 and 4 slots in the ladder. The Rams clinched the match when Kirchem defeated Exelby, 6-3, 6-2, at the No. 2 position.
Shortly thereafter, UTEP got on the board when Bloczynska won her tenth dual match of the season with a 7-5, 6-0, win over Dasha Zhurin, at No. 1.
The two teams split the final two points of the match as King was outlasted by Alexandra Paganetti, 7-5, 6-4, and Palider came from a set down to defeat Jessica Jones, 1-6, 7-6, (10-6), in a third-set super-tiebreaker. The win for Palider was her third consecutive and her 14th this year - tops on the UTEP squad.
UTEP will take on Northern Colorado on Saturday in Greeley, Colo. First serve is set for 10:00 a.m.
