UTEP Tennis Set to Take on Alabama Teams

Senior Martina Trierweiler has posted 10 wins during singles dual match play.

BIRMINGHAM, Ala. - The UTEP tennis team will take on Alabama State and UAB this weekend. The Miners (10-10, 1-1 C-USA) will play the Hornets (4-14) at 10 a.m. MT on Saturday, followed by Sunday's Conference USA match versus the Blazers (10-6, 1-1 C-USA) at 9 a.m. MT at the UAB Tennis Courts.

The Miners split their two conference matches on March 29 and 30 in Memphis, Tenn., beating Southern Miss, 6-1, and falling to No. 32 Memphis, 7-0.

Junior Rebeca Calvillo has been stellar at the No. 1 spot in singles dual match play, recording an 11-3 mark (15-5 overall). Junior Gabi Vazquez is 13-7 in singles dual match play, 8-3 at No. 3, while junior Marie Leblond is 12-8, 8-3 at No. 4.

Senior Martina Trierweiler's career at UTEP is winding down. The native of Brazil has made a dramatic improvement from last season, setting a career high with 10 wins in singles dual match play (8-5 at the No. 2 spot). Trierweiler recorded three wins during the 2012 spring season.

In doubles action, LeBlond and Vazquez have teamed up to win 13 matches at No. 2, while Calvillo and Trierweiler have won 10 matches at No. 1.

The Miners will wrap up the regular season when they take on Utah State in the Sun City on April 11.
