UTEP Tennis Set To Battle Eastern Washington On Senior Day

The UTEP women’s tennis team is ready to take on Eastern Washington in its final home match of the year at 9 a.m. on Saturday. The match will be held at the El Paso Tennis Club-located off of Robinson Street- and admission is free of charge.

The Miners were originally scheduled to play a pair of matches this weekend, but the match against UCF planned for Sunday has been cancelled due to travel complications for the Golden Knights.

The match against the Eagles will serve as “Senior Day” for Katherine Palider, as she will be playing for the last time in the Sun City. Palider has won 50 career singles matches, which places her tied for ninth all time in program history.

The Miners carry an 8-7 record, including 2-0 within C-USA play, into the match against the Eagles. UTEP has been especially impressive of late, emerging victorious in seven of its past nine matches. Overall, the eight triumphs are two more than what was achieved during the entire 2005-06 campaign.

EWU is in the midst of a breakthrough season, as the Eagles recently completed the Big Sky schedule with a school-record-best 4-3 mark. The prior five years, Eastern had gone just 4-33 in league play. Overall, Eastern is 6-10 on the campaign.

Following the match against EWU, the Miners will play at Conference USA member Houston on April 6.
