UTEP Tennis to host No. 66 New Mexico, NM State

EL PASO, Texas - Two programs from the Land of Enchantment will make their way to the Sun City. The UTEP women's tennis team will take on No. 66 New Mexico (9-6) on Saturday, March 22 (10 a.m. MT) and NM State (4-8) on March 23 (10 a.m.) at the El Paso Tennis Club.

The Miners (8-9, 2-1 Conference USA) will play in the El Paso for the first time since defeating Southern Miss and UTPB on February 23.

The Orange and Blue is coming off a 2-1 weekend (March 15 and 16) in Boise, Idaho, defeating Lewis & Clark, 7-0, and Utah State, 4-1, but falling to Boise State, 5-2.

After getting off to a slow 1-5 start, the Miners are 7-4 in their last 11 matches.

In dual-match singles play, Marie LeBlond was off to a winless 0-6 start, but has picked up her play, forging a 9-2 record since Feb. 14. Rebeca Calvillo and Gabi Vazquez are both 8-2 during their last 10 matches, while Davina Meza is 8-3 in her last 11. Vazquez leads the squad with 10 wins during the spring season, while Daphne Visscher has won her last three matches and is tied second on the squad with nine victories (Calvillo, LeBlond and Meza).

In doubles action, Calvillo and Meza are 10-3 (18-8 overall) at the No. 1 position, while Matilda Rose Tench and Vazquez are 7-3 (6-3 at No. 3, 1-0 at No. 2) since being paired up on Feb. 14.

During the 2013 season, UTEP fell to New Mexico, 4-3, on Feb. 17 in Albuquerque and came up short against NM State, 4-3, on March 15 in Las Cruces.
