UTEP Tennis to Play Three This Weekend

EL PASO, Texas - The UTEP women's tennis team will take on Lewis & Clark (March 14, 10 a.m. MT), Boise State (March 15, 1 p.m.) and Utah State (March 16, 10 a.m.) this weekend in Boise, Idaho.

The Miners (6-8, 2-1 Conference USA) are coming off a bye week and last played Feb. 28-March 2, losing two of three matches. UTEP defeated Sam Houston State, 6-1, but fell to SMU, 5-2, and No. 69 North Texas, 4-1.

Senior Rebeca Calvillo leads the team with an 8-5 dual-match singles record (15-10 overall), while senior Gabi Vazquez is 8-6. Senior Marie LeBlond and Davina Meza are both 7-7.

On the doubles side, Calvillo and Meza are playing well, compiling an 8-3 record and sophomore Matilda Rose Tench and Vazquez are 6-1 since being paired up.

Scouting the opponents

Lewis & Clark are winless on the season (0-7), but Claudia Lew is 4-3 in singles play.

Boise State is 5-6 this year and are led by Megan LaLone's 8-2 singles record, while Anissa Bryant-Swift is 7-4. Bryant-Swift and Milena Toseva are 5-3 in doubles action.

Utah State is 7-4 in the spring and are paced by Nini Guensler's 10-1 record. McKenzie Davis is 9-2, while Cassidy Branstine is 7-1. Guensler and Lexi Turley are 7-2 in doubles play.
