Weronika Bloczynska Named WAC Player of the Week
ENGLEWOOD, Colo. UTEP's Weronika Bloczynska was named the WAC womem's tennis player of the week, as announced by the league office Monday.
Bloczynska, a freshman from Elbag, Poland who joined the team in January, improved to 4-2 on the season with three wins at the No. 3 singles spot last weekend.
She has won four consecutive matches, earning two of the three wins over WAC opponents, Alissa Ayling of Boise State and Kristen Davenport of Nevada. She is also 2-0 in three-set matches. She also went 2-1 in doubles with Kendall Exelby at the No. 1 spot.
She is the first Miner to earn the award since Danielle King was named the Player of the Month in Dec., 2003. The last time a UTEP player won the award in the spring was Mar. 5, 2002, when Elisa Bjorklund nabbed the honor.
UTEP (2-4) will play host to Wyoming on Friday at 2 p.m. and UT-San Antonio on Saturday at 1 p.m. Both matches will be played at the El Paso Tennis Club and are free to the public.
