UTEP Cruises Past Texas State
SAN MARCOS, Texas -- UTEP captured five singles wins and garnered two doubles wins to cruise past Texas State 6-1 on Sunday in San Marcos, Texas. The win brings the Miners to 3-0, the best start since the 1998-99 season.
UTEP's Martina Rezar, Gilat Barzilai, Adriana Boykova and Danielle King garnered two-match victories against the Bobcats to secure four points for the Miners. Joanna Furdyna defeated Texas-States' Margaret Potyrala in three sets, 4-6, 6-2, 6-4 to garner UTEP's fifth point.
In doubles action, Furdyna and Katherine Palider teamed up for an 8-4 win over Melanie Hall and Gillian Derksen at No. 2, while the tandem of Spirta and King topped the Bobcats' Katie Felder and Laura Gomez, 8-2 at No. 3.
The Miners will return for a three-match stint at home starting Friday against Louisiana Tech at 2 p.m. at the El Paso Tennis Club. They will host Hawaii on Sunday at 10 a.m. and New Mexico State on Feb. 20.
