EL PASO, TEXAS– It will be a busy weekend for the UTEP tennis team, whi is slated to play a pair of home matches. The Miners (1-2) will play host to Northern Arizona in their home opener at 1 p.m. MST Friday before locking up with Air Force at 12 p.m. MST Sunday. Both matches will be contested at the El Paso Tennis Club, and admission is free.

UTEP has registered a program-best five straight winning seasons at home, and is 35-15 in that time frame. It went 4-1 in the Sun City last year.

“We are working hard and will be good to go for this weekend,” UTEP head coach Victor Aguilar said. “Hopefully we can get a good crowd out there.”

Taking care of business in doubles will be important, with the Miners winning their past six matches overall under Aguilar when doing so.

Marie LeBlond has registered a team-best 10 victories, including standing 2-1 in dual-match play at the No. 6 position. Dariya Abdrakhmanova and Martina Trierweiler, both 7-7 overall, have each secured a triumph in dual season, as has Carolina DeLuca (5-7 overall).

Rebeca Calvillo/Martina Trierweiler proved to be the top tandem in the fall at a flawless 7-0 but the duo is 0-1 in dual-match play thus far. Marie LeBlond/Gabi Vazquez and Dariya Abdrakhmanova/Anastasiya Sylenko have led the way for the Orange and Blue in dual action, with one triumph each.

Following this weekend, UTEP will play four straight road matches.
