DENTON, TEXAS – The UTEP tennis team put the finishing touches on the fall portion of its 2011-12 slate by registering a trio of victories on the final day of action of the North Texas Classic Sunday afternoon.

The effort caps what has been a successful fall season for the Miners, who finished with a combined mark of 39-35 in singles and 18-17 in doubles in their quartet of tournaments.

The tandem of Carolina DeLuca/Marie LeBlond got things going the Miners’ way on Sunday, trouncing Akron’s Angelina Jogasuria/Angelika Jogasuriam, 8-1. Two other Miners’ pairings looked to follow suit but it was not to be. Martina Trierweiler/Gabi Vazquez were upended by the Zip’s Zara Harutyunyan/Prang Pantusart, 8-5, while Dariya Abdrakhmanova/Anastasia Sylenko couldn’t get on track in an 8-0 defeat at the hands of UA’s Ksenia Berestetska/Natasha Kuvakina.

Action then switched to singles play where  DeLuca exacted a measure of revenge for the Orange and Blue by toppling Angelika Jogasuria, 7-6, 6-4. Abdrakhmanova did the same in cruising past Angelina Jogasuria, 6-3, 6-0, with ease in straight sets.

Trierweiler locked up with Harutyunyan, falling by a final count of 6-2, 6-3. Vazquez couldn’t crack Pantusart in a 6-0, 6-0 setback. Sylenko was in the same situation against Kuvakina, dropping the match 6-0, 6-0. LeBlonde went back and forth with Berestetska only to be edged, 6-3, 6-4.

The Miners will now be idle until initiating their dual-match portion of their season with a match at Denver on Jan. 27, 2012.
