UNM Invitational Results and Saturday Draw

Albuquerque, N.M. - The UTEP women's tennis team completed its first day of play at the UNM Invitational on Friday, garnering a pair of singles victories and a doubles triumph.

Marie LeBlond advanced in the semifinals of the Turquoise singles after defeating UNM's Nina Grbac, 6-1, 6-7, 6-4. LeBlond faces Utah's Lucia Kovarcikova on Saturday.

Anastasiya Sylenko powered past Western New Mexico's Dena Irvin, winning in straight sets, 6-0, 6-0. She faces Northern Arizona's Alice Walker on Saturday and UNM's Sarah Khan on Sunday.

Rebeca Calvillo and Martina Trierweiler moved to the consolation draw of the Cherry Singles. Calvillo fell, 6-3, 6-1 to UNM's Michaela Bezdickova and Trierweiler lost to South Carolina's Katerina Popova, 6-1, 6-2. Dariya Abdrakhmanova also fell, 6-4, 6-4, to Texas Tech's Kendall Warren.

After capturing a 6-3 victory in the first set of the Silver Flight, Gabi Vazquez dropped the final two sets, 6-3, 6-2, to South Carolina's Dominika Kanakova. She faces Northern Arizona's Nicole Perez on Saturday.

The doubles pair of Trierwieler and Abdrakhmanova highlighted the doubles portion of the invitational, securing the 8-4 win against the tandem of South Carolina's Alex Martina and UNM's Katie Wookie.

The doubles teams of Calvillo-Vazquez and LeBlond-Sylenko both suffered defeats in their respective matches on Friday. The tournament continues through the weekend.
