TUCSON, Ariz. - The UTEP tennis team finished its first day of competition at the Wildcat Invitational on Friday afternoon at El Conquistador Golf and Tennis Resort.

The day was highlighted in doubles action when senior Rebeca Calvillo and junior transfer Davina Meza defeated Scout Shutter and Jessica Warren of Cal State Northridge, 8-3, and will advance to take on Akilah James and Lauren Marker of Arizona on Saturday in the Wildcat Flight.

In singles action, Calvillo outmatched Vivian Lin (Cal State Northridge), 6-4, 6-4, and then beat Emily Oliver (New Mexico), 6-1, 6-2, in the second round of the Wildcat Championship Flight. Calvillo will face James (Arizona) in the next round on Saturday.

Senior Marie LeBlond fell to James in the first round of the Wildcat Championship Flight, but bounced back to beat Warren in the consolation round. LeBlond will take on Meghan Cassens of Iowa State on Saturday.

The invitational will continue on Saturday morning with competition starting at 10 a.m. MT (9 a.m. Pacific).
