Courtney Adcox, Marina Deluca, Ximena Fuentes and Vicky Michaud all claimed wins on the final day of the Aggie Fall Invite as the UTEP tennis team capped off its season-opening tournament with a bang.

The Miners also had success in doubles action on Sunday, with the tandems of DeLuca/Fuentes and Adcox/Michaud picking up triumphs.

For the three-day event, Michaud led the team with a 3-1 mark in singles. Fuentes was also impressive, posting a 2-1 record.

“It was a good last day,” UTEP head coach Jamie Campbell said. “We got better each day and will use the results from this tournament as a building block to improve before our next event.”

Michaud cruised past Jones from Texas State, 6-1, 6-0, to set the tone for the day. DeLuca and Fuentes also secured straight set triumphs. The native of Brazil dispatched TSU’s Cooper, 6-2, 6-3, while the sophomore waxed Western New Mexico’s Lampman, 6-2, 6-0.

Adcox showed off her toughness in claiming a hard-fought triumph against WNMU’s Waide. The freshman secured the initial set, 6-3, before Waide struck back with a 7-5 win in the second set. The El Paso native dug deep in the final set and was rewarded with a 6-4 win.

In doubles, DeLuca/Fuentes fought hard on the way to a satisfying 8-6 defeat of TSU’s Cooper/Yanes. That performance came on the heels of an impressive showing by Adcox/Michaud, who drilled WNMU’s Owen/Waide, 8-2.

Weronika Bloczynska also saw action on the day, but she was unable to pad her win total. The senior was knocked off by TSU’s Yanes, 6-4, 6-2. Later in doubles, Bloczynska and Megan Pritchard fought hard only to come up on the short end against NMSU’s Kulaif/Eusebe, 8-6.
