UTEP Tennis Wraps up Final Day of Aggie Invite

LAS CRUCES, N.M. - The UTEP women's tennis team completed the final day of the NM State Aggie Invitational on Sunday afternoon at the NM State Tennis Center.
Junior transfer Davina Meza captured the Acoma Flight Championship on Sunday when she defeated Meredith Hopson from New Mexico, 6-4, 3-6, 6-0. Prior to Sunday's victory, Meza outmatched Marina Rull from Tarleton State, 6-1, 6-0, and then claimed victory over Mia Brandt from NM State, 6-3, 6-0, on Saturday afternoon.
In other action, sophomore Matilda Rose Tench defeated Gabrielle Joyce from NM State, 6-1, 6-4, on Saturday. Tench then roughed up Diamond Morill, 6-0, 6-1, to advance to the Taos Flight Championship. Her ride was short lived as Jordan Denesik from Northern Arizona beat Tench, 6-2, 6-4, to claim the championship.
Freshman Daphne Visscher advanced to the Zia Flight Consolation Final where she defeated New Mexico's Susie Baklini, 6-3, 6-0, on Sunday.
Sophomore Jamie Leigh-Michau claimed victory over Dena Irvin from Western New Mexico, 6-1, 6-0, in the third place consolation match in the Isleta Flight.
Junior Anastasiya Sylenko defeated Silvia Nieva from Tarleton State, 6-1, 4-6, 10-7, in the consolation final of the Taos Flight.
The Miners continue their fall season when they travel to Tucson, Ariz. to compete in the University of Arizona Tournament. The three-day event will take place Oct. 11-13.
