Miners Break into Finals at Aggie Invitational

Las Cruces, N.M. -- The UTEP Miners tennis team advances two individuals and one doubles team to the final day of the NM State Aggie Invitational after competing on Saturday, Sept. 15 in Las Cruces, N.M.
The second pair of Miners just missed the finals, didn't go down without a fight. Martina Trierweiler and Dariya Abrakhmanova paired up for their second doubles match of the season against Abilene Christian dropping the match 8-6.
"Today was another really good day for the Miners," head coach Mark Roberts said, "The girls fought hard and won some tough matches. We are really looking forward to tomorrow."
Individually, Calvillo topped her opponent from ACU (6-0, 7-6) and moved on to secure a spot in the Sunday's final round after beating her second ACU foe (6-2, 6-0). Calvillo is set to face Wildcat Kaysie Hermsdorf for the title.
Trierweiler quickly defeated Kristin Eggleston of UNM (7-6, 6-1) before topping NM State's Ginet Pinero (7-6, 6-2) and making her way into finals against the Aggie's Annemieke Witte on Sunday.
Vazquez made her way into the semifinals on Saturday when she came over Lobo Michaeka Oldani in a three-set battle (6-1, 2-6,7-6) but fell to Hermsdorf (6-3, 6-3).
UTEP finishes off its debut tournament on Sunday, Sept. 16, at 9 a.m. (MT).
