UTEP Tennis Splits Day in Abilene

ABILENE, Texas - A day after playing No. 20 Texas Tech, UTEP tennis lost, 4-2, to Abilene Christian, which is ranked No. 3 nationally in Division II, but bounced back to take down Texas Permian-Basin, 5-0, at the Teague Events Center on Saturday afternoon.
Abilene Christian (14-5) took care of business Saturday morning winning all three doubles matches and winning three of five singles matches.
The Miners (9-9) swept the Falcons (5-2) as they won all three doubles matches and took four singles matches.
Junior Rebeca Calvillo stopped a two-match losing streak at the No. 1 spot as she won her match, 6-2, 6-1, over former Coronado T-Bird, Alehanna Kehr-Gomez. Senior Martina Trierweiler also defeated a former El Paso high school student. Casey Acosta, from Burges High School, lost, 6-0, 6-2, on the No. 2 court.
UTEP will open up Conference USA play when they face Southern Miss in Memphis, Tenn. on March 29.
