LAS CRUCES, N.M. – The UTEP tennis team took hold of the doubles point, but came up short to NM State, 4-3, at the NM State Tennis Center on Friday afternoon.

The Miners (8-7) won all three doubles matches, but the Aggies (4-7) pulled out four wins during singles play.

On the singles side, Rebeca Calvillo keeps winning at the No. 1 spot. The junior improved to 9-0 (13-2 overall) as she won, 6-3, 6-3, over Jodie Williams and senior Martina Trierweiler took down Denise Van Der Ben, 6-3, 6-3, at the No. 2 spot to improve to 8-6 overall in dual match play.

Marie Leblond and Gabi Vazquez improved to 11-3 in doubles play. The juniors defeated Annemieke Witte and Denise Van Der Ben, 8-7.

The Miners will face tennis powerhouse Texas Tech, which is currently ranked No. 21 in the nation, on Friday, March 22 in Lubbock.
