El Paso, Texas - The UTEP women's tennis team fell to Abilene Christian, 5-2, on Saturday at the El Paso Tennis Club.

"It was tough and a challenge for the team because we didn't have Rebeca (Calvillo)," head coach Myriam Sopel said. "It changed the dynamic of the team but the girls fought hard. It was just really hard to adjust from one match to another having to move everyone one spot up. We will look forward to tomorrow and will go from there."

The Miners (3-6) suffered their first loss in the Sun City.

The Wildcats (5-2) gained the advantage when they won doubles point. Sophomore Matilda Rose Tench and senior Gabi Vazquez teamed up to win the only doubles match for the Orange and Blue.

In singles action, senior Marie LeBlond defeated Erin Walker 6-3, 6-1. It was LeBlond's third straight dual-match singles win.

Vazquez notched the other singles win for the Miners, defeating Brittney Reed 6-1, 6-1.

The Miners will face Southern Miss at 9 a.m. MT and UTPB at 2 p.m. tomorrow at the El Paso Tennis Club. Free breakfast will be served prior to the Southern Miss match.
