El Paso, Texas - The UTEP softball team dropped two games in Tulsa, Okla. on Saturday afternoon. The Miners scored just one run in a 4-2 loss in game one and were involved in a back-and-forth affair in game two until a big Tulsa inning lead to a 4-12 five-inning defeat.
Camilla Carrera continued her torrid home run hitting during the 2012 campaign with a first inning solo shot. The long ball was the 29th for the slugger who leads the nation in home runs.
A bases loaded walk issued to Lacey Middlebrooks in the bottom of the first tied the game at 1-1.
Tulsa took advantage of a pair of errors in the bottom of the second to score three runs and take a 4-1 lead over UTEP.
Carrera walked in the top of the seventh and came around to score on a single by Charissa Ballesteros for the second and final Miner run of the game.
Middlebrooks pitched seven innings, allowing two runs on just three hits while striking out four batters.
Colleen Hohman pitched six innings and allowed just one earned run on three hits with five punchouts but picked up the loss.
Chelsea Troupe sailed her 17th home run to get the scoring started in the first inning of game two.
Tulsa evened the score in the bottom of the frame on a sac fly. A pair of walks with the bases loaded broke the tie and gave the Golden Hurricane a 3-1 lead.
The Miners came back in the top of the third scoring two runs to tie the score at 3-3. Ashley Eldridge and Camilla Carrera each scored on back-to-back wild pitches.
A single and two doubles in the bottom of the third gave Tulsa a 5-3 advantage in the see-saw affair.
Troupe crushed a solo home run in the top of the fifth to cut the Tulsa lead to one.
The Golden Hurricane put up a seven spot in the bottom of the fifth stanza scoring the runs on four hits and five walks.
The Miners will wrap up their Conference USA slate with a final game against Tulsa on Sunday.
