El Paso, Texas – Cynthia Villastrigo tossed her best outing of the season on Sunday at the Helen of Troy Softball Complex. Villastrigo hurled her first complete game shutout in a Miner uniform scattering only three hits and walking seven.  The Miners moved to 14-33 overall on the season and 3-18 in conference play.

Both teams were held scoreless in the first two innings of play and Villastrigo held UAB scoreless in the top of the third. Laura Ramos came to bat in the bottom of the third and dropped a single into short right field for the Miners first base knock of the afternoon. With Ramos on first Camilla Carrera blasted her nation leading 28th home run to left field giving the Miners a 2-0 advantage.

The three seniors played part in adding some insurance runs for the Miners in the bottom of the fifth inning. Courtney Ware singled to lead off the inning, Carrera walked, and Chelsea Troupe crushed her 16th homerun of the season to center field. Tahla Wade laced a double to left field to drive home Kayla Black for the sixth Miner run of the game. The seventh run crossed the plate when Ashley Collazo drove a ball back up the middle to bring Wade home.

Carrera went 2-3 with 2 RBIs and Troupe went 2-2 with 3 RBIs on the day.

The Miners will travel to Tulsa for the final conference series of the season. The three game tilt will begin on Saturday and conclude on Sunday.
