MINERS
Marshall Blanks UTEP, 8-0, to Complete Series Sweep

April 1, 2012

El Paso, Texas - The Miner bats had no answer for Marshall’s Andi Williamson on Sunday afternoon. Williamson hurled a complete game shutout surrendering only three hits to UTEP (12-25, 2-11 C-USA) in the 8-0 five inning Marshall victory. Kayla Oranger accounted for two of those hits going 2-3 on the day.
A single in the first inning put Marshall on the board against UTEP starter Colleen Hohman.
Williamson held UTEP hitless in the first two innings until Kayla Oranger smacked a single through the right side to break up the no-no.
Hohman held the Thundering Herd scoreless for the next three innings until they took her for 5 runs in the fifth inning. An error by Hohman lead to two runs and a three-run home run off the bat of Gamby brought in the five runs off Hohman.  Laura Ramos came in relief after Hively doubled off Hohman. Valle promptly hit a two-run home run on the first offering from Ramos to extend the Marshall lead to 8-0.
The Miners loaded the bases in the bottom of the fifth inning but were unable to bring any runs across.
Williamson struckout Tahla Wade and got Camilla Carrera to fly out to center to end the game.
UTEP will take on UCF in a three game series at home starting with a doubleheader on Friday at 2:00 p.m. at the Helen of Troy Softball Complex.
