El Paso, Texas - Camilla Carrera finished the day with a pair of two-run home runs in the Miners finale against Houston. The senior brought her home run total for the season to 19 and her RBI total to 48 in the 13-4 six inning loss to the Cougars.
Melissa Gregson blasted a two run homer in the bottom of the third for the Cougars off of Colleen Hohman giving Houston an early 2-0 lead. The Cougars added another run when a throwing error by catcher Camilla Carrera allowed Outon to score.
Carrera, the nation’s home run leader, made up for the error with a two-run big fly in the third inning which cut the Miners deficit to just one run. The long ball was the 18th of the season for the senior.
Houston tacked on a run in the third and fourth frame’s to extend their lead to 5-2.
Carrera went yard for the second time in the game in the fifth inning. The senior’s second two-run home run of the game brought the Miners within one run of the Cougars again.
Houston posted an eight spot in the bottom of the sixth inning ending the game on a run-rule.
UTEP will travel to Greenville, NC for a three game series against the East Carolina Pirates starting with a doubleheader on Saturday, March 24.
