UTEP Softball to Take on New Mexico

EL PASO, Texas - The UTEP softball team will get break from Conference USA action, as they will travel to Albuquerque, N.M. to play New Mexico in a doubleheader starting at 12 p.m. MT on Tuesday.

"It's good that we can get back on the field so quickly," head coach Tobin Echo-Hawk said. "New Mexico is a team that can hit the ball, but we match up pretty well with them. We're hoping to get back on track and get some wins."

Miners Drop Two to Lobos
The UTEP softball team fell short to New Mexico (6-5, 4-2) in a two-game series in Albuquerque.

The Miners (8-16, 1-2 C-USA) just completed a three-game set with conference foe Southern Miss, winning game one, 5-1, but dropping the next two, 8-6 and 11-7.

Erika Arcuri, who led the Miners in hitting last season, currently leads the team with a .359 batting average (28-for-78) and has matched her RBI total (seven) from 2013. Ashley Eldridge continues to play well, as the junior is hitting .338 (24-for-71) and leads the squad in doubles (10) and RBI (19). Alanna Leasau is pacing the team in home runs with five and is tied second with Colleen Hohman in RBI (14).

In the circle, Danielle Pearson leads the team with four wins, while Hohman's 4.78 ERA is a team best. Pearson also leads in Ks with 27 in 69 innings.

Series vs. New Mexico

UTEP is 7-9 all time against New Mexico. The Miners have dropped their last three contests versus the Lobos, including last season's two losses - 6-5 in game one and 4-2 in game two on April 24 - in Albuquerque.



Leasau and Hohman each hit home runs during game one. The Miners tied the game 5-5 in the top seventh on Hohman's long ball (a two-run shot), but the Lobos scored the game winning run in the bottom half.

In game two, the Lobos scored four runs in the first inning that finished the Miners early. Arcuri went 3-for-3 with an RBI, and Leasau drove in the other run.

New Mexico is 7-14 and 5-1 at home this season.

Naomi Tellez leads the team with a .379 batting average (22-for-58) and RBI (16). Tellez, Jasmine Casados and Michala Erickson each have hit three home runs, while Casados has 14 RBI. In the circle, Carrie Sheehan is 3-6 with a 6.00 ERA in 58.1 innings, and Lauren Soles is 2-0 with a 3.23 ERA in 13 innings.
