Miners to Open Home Stand Saturday

EL PASO, Texas – The UTEP softball team will open its home stand against I-10 rival NM State at 1:30 p.m. MT at Helen of Troy Field Saturday.

The Miners (5-6) lost to the Aggies (7-5) in Las Cruses earlier this season.This will be one of two meetings with the second being played at 2:30 p.m. MT Sunday.

Admission is free for all fans while food will be provided at the tailgates prior to the games this weekend in conjunction with the National Girls and Women in Sports Day festivities.

To make the weekend more special, Theresa Juarez, an El Dorado High School graduate and recent California Institute of Technology grad, will throw out the first pitch. Juarez played both basketball and volleyball at Caltech and appeared on the cover of the Winter 2011 edition of NCAA Champion magazine. Standing at 5-feet-6 inches tall, Juarez averaged 9.8 rebounds per game that led the conference her senior season.

UTEP will also host South Dakota on Saturday (4 p.m. MT) and on Sunday (12:15 p.m. MT). The Miners fell to the Coyotes last weekend at the Jimmy John’s Lion Classic II in Hammond, La.
