UTEP Softball Splits with Midland College

EL PASO, Texas - The UTEP softball team wrapped up its home fall schedule by splitting with Midland College on Friday afternoon at Helen of Troy Softball Complex. The Miners pounded the Chaparrals, 15-5, in game one and lost game two, 5-4, in eight innings.
The Miners used a seven-run fifth inning to blow the game open as senior Kayla Black blasted a grand slam and sophomore Kawehiokalani Netane's ground rule double brought senior Miraya Montiel across home plate.
Junior Ashley Eldridge continued to play well this fall as she went 4-for-5 with three doubles, a single and four RBI, including one in the seventh inning.
Midland College scored a run in the top of the eighth inning to down the Miners. UTEP received RBIs from Eldridge, senior Colleen Hohman and Montiel to take an early 4-0 lead in the first inning, but Midland's Taylor Daniels knocked in a run and Kelcey Gomez belted a three-run shot to center field to tie the game in the third inning.
The Miners will complete their fall schedule when they take on Eastern Arizona on Saturday in Thatcher, Ariz.
