BOCA RATON, Fla. - Florida Atlantic's Whitley Herb singled in Lindsey Shell in the 11th inning to defeat UTEP, 4-3, in a thrilling 11-inning final game of a three-game series on Saturday at FAU Softball Stadium.

The Owls (30-21, 12-9 Conference USA) completed the weekend sweep of the Miners (15-30, 7-11).

Jordan Stovall put the Owls on the board early with a two-run triple to deep right field during the opening inning.

But the Miners took the lead with one swing of the bat in the third inning.

Samantha Alvillar reached first base on an error and Erika Arcuri singled. Orlando, Fla. native Kawehiokalani Netane went up to bat and cranked a three-run home run, on a 2-1 pitch, just past the leftfield pole to give the Miners a 3-2 lead. It was her fifth long ball of the season.

The Owls would tie the contest as Shelby Knox scored on a fielding miscue in the third.

The Miners made key defensive plays during the epic game. Netane's glove was key in the sixth inning as she accounted for all three outs. Ashley Eldridge made a great throw from right field to home that would have ended the game in the eighth inning.

Netane's high school teammate at Cypress Creek High School in Orlando pitched a solid nine innings. The Miners gathered eight hits as Eldridge went 3-for-5 and Colleen Hohman tallied a couple singles.

UTEP will conclude its home portion of the 2014 campaign against UTSA on April 26 and 27 at the Helen of Troy Softball Complex. Seniors Arcuri, Kayla Black, Hohman, Alanna Leasau and Miraya Montiel will be honored on Senior Day (April 27).
