EL PASO, Texas – Houston blasted three home runs in the third, fifth and sixth innings to down UTEP, 10-1 in six innings, on a sunny, breezy Sunday afternoon at the Helen of Troy Softball Complex.

The Miners (12-25, 1-13 C-USA) are in a fight with Southern Miss for a spot in the Conference USA tournament, while the Cougars (29-12, 12-3 C-USA) are fighting for the No. 1 seed in the tourney.

UTEP senior catcher Kayleigh Walts got the Orange and Blue on the scoreboard in the fifth when she singled to right that brought freshman Morgan Rasmason across home plate. Walts and Rasmason had two hits each, while sophomore McKenzey Finley notched her second hit of the weekend.

The Miners travel to Birmingham, Ala. to take on first-place UAB in a three-game series on Saturday and Sunday.
