EL PASO, Texas - East Carolina combined for eight runs on eight hits, defeating the Miners 8-0, sweeping the series from the Miners. UTEP falls to 21-22 overall and 6-8 in Conference USA while the Pirates, who move to first place in league standings with the sweep, improves to 29-11 and 14-4 in league play.

Jennifer Davis went 2-for-3 at the plate and Camilla Carrera, Kristin Lusby and Becky Smith also contributed to the Miners' five hits.

Davis, who hit right handed in her first at bat, switched and knocked two singles for the day.

Stacie Townsend punched out five batters in three and a third innings of play, and struck out the side in the second frame.

East Carolina's Toni Paisley received her 21st win in the circle, scattering five hits while striking out 10 batters for her second double digit performance of the series.

The Pirates struck early, as the first four batters connected, setting up a two run home run by Cristen Aona, to open with a 2-0 lead after the first inning of play. The Pirates could have made it three, but UTEP's Chelsea Troupe made a play at the plate, tagging Angel Barrella on the path, keeping East Carolina from making it three runs.

East Carolina added another two in the third, three in the fifth and one in the sixth and held the Miners scoreless for the fourth time this season.

UTEP started a rally in the fifth, as Smith singled up the middle. Carrera laced her sixth hit of the series, just a few feet inside the left field line.

The Miners were able to get just one hit off in the sixth, a single to left center by Davis, but Paisley put away the UTEP's final batter for the six inning win.

The Orange and Blue hit the road for a three game series at Southern Miss beginning on April 18. UTEP returns for its final home stand with a single game against Texas Tech on April 23 and wraps up its regular single campaign with a series against Tulsa on April 25.
