TEMPE, Ariz. –
The UTEP softball team concluded its weekend as it fell to no. 17 Utah, 9-0 in five innings, on Saturday afternoon at the Kajikawa Classic.

The Utes (4-0) jumped on UTEP starting pitched freshman Allie Johnson as she loaded the bases with no outs. Senior Fifield came in to replace Johnson, but Utah crossed the dish eight times in the first inning. UTEP pitchers combined for five walks, five hits and a hit by pitch.

The Miners (0-5) tallied two hits as Courtney Clayton led the contest off with a single and Kaitlin Ryder connected on a knock in the second frame.

Devyn Cretz saw her first collegiate action as the redshirt freshman hurled 3.2 innings, tallied four strikeouts and walked a pair.  

UTEP will look to rebound at the DeMarini Desert Classic hosted by UNLV Feb. 17-19. The Miners will open against the host school (5:45 p.m. MT) and Nevada at 8 p.m. at Eller Media Softball Stadium on Friday.
