Aubrey Nitschelm will begin her second season as graduate assistant with UTEP softball for the 2017 season. Nitschelm is pursing a master’s after graduating from Portland State in 2015.

Nitschelm assisted with the catchers and the infield. Defensively, the Miners committed 61 errors, the third least in program history. Also, the UTEP defense tallied a program-record 533 assists in 2016. 

In 2016, the Miners batted .307 as a team, the best batting average during a single season in school history. The offense also set a single-season school record by connecting on 451 hits. 

Nitschelm played for current UTEP head coach Tobin Echo-Hawk at Portland State for two years (2012 & 2013).

Nitschelm, during her senior season, hit .314 (53-for-169) with five home runs, 26 RBI, 26 runs scored, six doubles and six stolen bases. The native of Redmond, Ore., started in all 51 games in the outfield for the Vikings.

Nitschelm was named to 2012 PCSC Commissioner’s Honor Roll, 2013 Big Sky All-Tournament team, 2013 Big Sky Spring All-Academic team, 2014 Big Sky All-Conference second team, 2014 Big Sky Spring All-Academic team, 2014 NFCA Scholar-Athlete, 2015 Big Sky All-Conference second team, 2015 NFCA Scholar-Athlete and 2015 Big Sky Spring All-Academic team.
