EL PASO, TEXAS - The UTEP soccer team took a break from its demanding training camp to hold the Fifth-Annual Media Penalty Kick Challenge at a sun-soaked University Field Tuesday morning.

As in previous years, it was a team-based format affording media members the chance to score a PK on the Miners' goalkeepers. More than 25 members of the local El Paso media attended the 2014 edition of the event, with the "Mineros" team assembled by Harry Ruiz of KINT TV Univision 26 claiming the crown.

There were also awards given for "Most Stylish" (Aaron Rich), "Best Goal Celebration" (Sharpshooters) and Golden Boot (Cesar Ruiz).

"UTEP Soccer is extremely thankful for the El Paso media taking time out of their busy schedules to attend the 2014 UTEP Soccer Media Penalty Kick Challenge," UTEP head coach Kevin Cross said. "This annual event is one of the most fun events of the entire year for the team, and we always look forward to it. We never know what awesome goal celebration will appear!

"UTEP Soccer is so appreciative of the El Paso media's support of UTEP Soccer through the years. We never take that support for granted. I know that our UTEP Soccer players decide to play for UTEP because soccer matters to El Paso.

"There is a reason UTEP Soccer has one of the best home fields in Texas. It is because of the El Paso media. I have been at UTEP for 17 years and I know I would not get such awesome treatment at another school. El Paso is an awesome place to play college soccer at UTEP thanks to the El Paso media! Thank you so much for your attendance today, and your continuous support of UTEP Soccer. We are looking forward to a great season!"

The Miners will continue their training camp through next week before kicking off the 2014 season at home against Texas State at 7 p.m. on Aug. 22. There will be a pre-game tailgate sponsored by the UTEP Alumni Association with Rudy's providing free food while supplies last.
