Radcliffe Tabbed As Assistant Coach For UTEP Soccer
July 9, 2010
EL PASO, TEXAS –Jo Radcliffe has been appointed as an assistant coach for the UTEP soccer team, as announced by head coach Kevin Cross on Friday. Radcliffe starred for the Miners from 2007-09, and served as a student assistant following the conclusion of her career. "I am extremely excited about Jo Radcliffe joining the UTEP Soccer staff,” Cross said. “She has shown her value as a student assistant coach during the 2010 year. Jo has been instrumental in landing some top recruiting commitments. “She is mature beyond her years, and has a passion for UTEP Soccer like none other. She is a fighter, and showed that spirit by obtaining All-Conference honors her senior year while captaining the team. Jo has a contagious smile that is great to have around the entire UTEP Soccer program - staff, players and recruits. Jo is committed to taking UTEP Soccer to even greater heights. Jo bleeds UTEP Orange.” She was a strong student, as well, twice earning placement on the Conference USA Commissioner’s Academic Honor Roll. Her best season for the Orange and Blue was also her last, with the native of Phoenix, Ariz., garnering placement on the All C-USA third team in fall 2009. She used her ball-winning ability and marking skills to limit the opposition to a 1.30 GAA and only 5.3 shots on goal per game. The defensive-minded midfielder was also a factor offensively, with four goals and an assist. Radcliffe first came to the Sun City in 2007, and she made an immediate impact. She started 21 of 22 contests, contributing four goals and a helper while helping propel UTEP into the semifinals of the C-USA Tournament. Two of her strikes on the year served as match winners. She earned a spot in the starting 11 all 21 matches of her junior season, and finished with six points (two goals, two assists). Radcliffe logged the second-most minutes (1737-82.7) of any player of the squad, and her play was instrumental in the team finishing with a mark of 13-7-1 for the second straight year. Radcliffe started her collegiate career at Paradise Valley Community College, garnering NJCAA All-American honors after scoring 13 goals and registering nine assists for 35 points. The effort set school standards in each of the categories, and the squad concluded the campaign with a program-best 14-3-2 record. PVCC won the ACCAC title and earned a No. 12 national ranking, in addition to securing runner-up honors at the Region I tournament. Prior to her time at PVCC, Radcliffe was a two-time first team all-state honoree for Glendale Ironwood High School. Radcliffe graduated from UTEP with a bachelor’s degree in multidisciplinary studies in May 2010. |
