Former Miner standout Jessie Pettit returned to the Sun City to serve as an assistant coach, UTEP head soccer coach Kevin Cross announced on June 7, 2016.

In her first year on the Miner coaching staff, Pettit helped UTEP post its most wins (13) at the school since 2009 and advance to the semifinals of the 2016 Conference USA Championships. The Orange and Blue also recorded a school-record tying 11 shutouts.

Pettit ventured to El Paso after working as an assistant coach for Ranger College where most recently the team registered a 9-5-2 regular-season record to qualify for the regional tournament as the No. 3 seed. In the event, the Lady Rangers advanced to the semifinals before sustaining a loss to rival Cisco.

Pettit was a four-year letter winner for the Miners (2008-11), helping them to a record of 48-29-6 in that timeframe. Used primarily as a defender or midfielder, she started 48 of 68 career matches, and was a senior leader on the 2011 squad that made a run to the finals of the 2011 Conference USA Championship.

While her presence was primarily felt through her efforts on defense, Pettit also had some moments to shine in the attack. She scored two goals while adding six assists during her career, including three helpers as a freshman and two as a junior.

UTEP won 13 contests in each of her first two seasons in the Sun City before compiling 11 victories in both 2010 and 2011.

Pettit graduated from UTEP in May 2013 with a degree in organizational/corporate communication. She is a native of San Antonio, Texas.
