Fans are invited out to be a part of the annual Alumni Game at the Sun Bowl at 1 p.m. on Saturday (April 26). It's been a wonderful spring exhibition season for the UTEP soccer team, which put together a perfect 4-0-1 record. The Miners outscored the opposition, 14-3, aided by two shutouts while holding three other foes to just one goal.
While it was a wonderful thing to be undefeated in the spring season, it was especially wonderful to see the balanced attack across the board. Angela Cutaia paced the squad with four goals while Brianna Barreiro, Mackenzie German and Brianna Thomas (two) also had multiple strikes. Atzimba Casas, Nicole Lindsay, Hannah Nicholson and Alexis Roberts all found the back of the net.
The Miners downed ENMU, 5-0, on April 12, toppled New Mexico Highlands, 4-1, on April 13, bested Arizona, 3-1, on April 5 and derailed Arizona State, 1-0, on March 29. UTEP battled to a 1-1 tie at New Mexico on April 6.
Twelve home matches, including renewing the battle of I-10, contests against Northern Arizona, UNLV, Weber State and a 10-game Conference USA slate highlight the 2014 UTEP soccer schedule.
"We are very excited for the 2014 season," UTEP head coach Kevin Cross said. "We have a great non-conference schedule highlighted by seven home games. Conference USA play will be tough as always but the team is looking forward to the challenge and is having a great spring season in preparation.
"We are highly appreciative of the fan support we receive at University Field making it one of the toughest places to play in the state of Texas. UTEP Soccer is putting in the work now to make for an exciting 2014 season!"
