Miners Wrap Up Quality Exhibition Spring Season

While it does not draw the attention or glory of the regular season, the exhibition games the Miners play in the spring have nearly the same amount of importance on the overall success of the program.

The effort at workouts and exhibition contests sets the tone for the fall. Based on the results this spring, the Miners are on track to notch their 11th straight winning season.

Consider that UTEP handled I-10 rival New Mexico State on the road, 2-0, while battling Big 12 member Texas Tech to 0-0 tie and playing to a 1-1 draw against Pacific 12 school Arizona.

While it came up shy against Arizona State and on the road against New Mexico, those experiences should pay dividends when the Miners start their 2012 season

Former Miner To Compete At 2012 London Olympic Games

Representing your country is the greatest honor that any athlete can have, and former Miner Kelly Parker will get to experience that first hand at the 2012 London Olympic games! Parker was one of the best players in program history, piling up 84 points from 1999-2003, and she later served as an assistant coach for more than five years.

A member of Team Canada since 2009, she played in the 2011 FIFA Women's World Cup.

Parker will now once again be playing on the world's stage, thanks to Canada clinching a bid in the Olympics She certainly did her part in that happening, by picking up the play for injured midfielders.

An area that is even more important, though, is having great accomplishments in the classroom. The Miners continued to excel in 2011-12, racking up 24 academic awards from Conference USA.
