Rifle Drops Match To Nevada, 4633-4640

El Paso, Texas - The UTEP rifle team lost to Nevada, 4633-4640, on Saturday at the UTEP Rifle Range. The meeting was the third time in a row the teams had faced each other. UTEP lost for the first time since they dropped a match to TCU on Oct. 1.

The Miners came out on top in air gun with an aggregate of 2350 and Alix Moncada (592) led all shooters in air rifle. Amanda McMullin and Andrea Palafox each posted a 588 and finished in the top five among air rifle shooters. Jennifer Armendariz shot a 582. Hannah Muegge and Andrea Vautrin each recorded a 585. Korina Rodriguez (580), Atenas Bojorquez (576) and Areli Oros (550) rounded out the air rifle scores for the Miners.

The Miners scuffled for a second week in a row in smallbore (2283) shooting one of their lowest scores of the season. Armendariz lead the Miners gunning a 577 in smallbore. Palafox followed close behind posting a 574. Rodriguez (571) and Moncada (570) are the only two Miners who shot in the 570's. McMullin (569), Vautrin (562) and Muegge (556) all also participated in smallbore.

The match against the Wolfpack wrapped up the Miners' fall schedule. They will be back in action on Jan. 28, 2012 when they will travel to Murray, Kent. to participate in the Withrow Tournament.
