UTEP Rifle Tops Alaska-Fairbanks and Nevada In Triangular Match

El Paso, Texas - The UTEP Rifle team was back in action Saturday taking on Alaska-Fairbanks and Nevada in a triangular match at the UTEP Rifle Range. The Miners came in first place for the second time this weekend. They gunned an aggregate of 4659 while Alaska-Fairbanks (4647) and Nevada (4641) came in second and third, respectively.
Senior Andrea Palafox topped all shooters in air rifle shooting 594 on the day. The score became the highest for a Miner this season. Palafox also posted the highest smallbore score (577) among her teammates. Palafox's aggregate (1,171) tied her highest score this season.
Jennifer Armendariz posted a 591 in air rifle and just missed tying her season high of 592. Amanda McMullin (589) and Hannah Muegge (587) contributed with season-high scores. Alix Moncada posted a 588 on the day. Korina Rodriguez (582), Atenas Bojorquez (578) and Areli Oros (535) also saw action in the victory.
In smallbore Armendariz and Muegge each finished with a 574. Moncada (572), McMullin (570) and Rodriguez (558) rounded out the scoring for the Miners.
UTEP will take on Nevada in a rematch on Saturday Nov. 12 for their last match of the semester.
