EL PASO, Texas - The UTEP rifle team split its meet this weekend, as they defeated Air Force 4558-4483 on Saturday then fell to top-ranked Alaska-Fairbanks (4625-4578) on Sunday.

"The team worked very hard to have a very good performance," said head coach George Brenzovich. "I am please with the results and efforts. We are off next weekend then host Nevada. This will be a pivotal two weeks of training to even up with the Wolfpack."

The Miners lost to Nevada just two weeks ago.

UTEP freshmen Amber Criss and Josie Burzynski led UTEP against Alaska-Fairbanks as the Miners fell by just 57 points.

Criss recorded a new freshman record in air gun against the Nanooks, firing 589. She outshot her previous record of 585 set just last week at Nevada. Burzynski fired a personal best, 581, in the match.

Ana Crabtree and Karya Davila recorded scores of 577 and 576, respectively.

In smallbore, Davila paced the Miners, firing a score of 568. She was followed by Burzynski (567), Criss (568) and Crabtree (558).

Against Air Force, Crabtree led the Miners in the air gun portion with a score of 586. She was followed by Davila with 583, Burzynski with 577 and Criss who fired 570.

In smallbore, Burzynski led the Miners, firing a score of 567. She was trailed by Crabtree (565), Davila (557) and Criss (553).
