Rifle Ranked No. 5 in CRCA Coaches Poll

El Paso, Texas - UTEP rifle is ranked fifth in the College Rifle Coaches Association. The weekly poll is decided using each schools season scores. UTEP, who started the season ranked 13th, have a season aggregate of 4627. The ranking marks the highest ever for a UTEP rifle team.

Alix Moncada and Andrea Vautrin have lead the team this season compiling high scores in both smallbore and air rifle. Moncada leads the team in air rifle (587) while Vautrin leads in smallbore (578). Moncada and Vautrin are also first and second in team aggregates shooting 1163 and 1162 respectively.

Andrea Palafox has also led the team with her aggregate of 1161. Palafox is among team leaders in smallbore (575) and air rifle (586).

The Miners have felt the impact of freshman Jennifer Armendariz. Armendariz has shot an aggregate of 1150 in the two matches she has participated in.

Korina Rodriguez is one of only five Miners who have participated in all three matches during the 2011 campaign. She has a season aggregate of 1148.

"Each day we've been working on just one little thing to improve on," said head coach George Brenzovich. "The first Collegiate Rifle coaches poll placed UTEP 13th at the beginning of the season. The second week, up to 11th, then sixth and now fifth. Just one more little thing, each student focusing on the basics, and who knows where we will finish this season."

The Miners will travel to take on Jacksonville State this Saturday, Oct. 22.
