Miners Top NMMI

EL PASO, Texas -- The 12th-ranked UTEP rifle team topped New Mexico Military Institute Friday at the UTEP Rifle Range. The Miners finished the match with an aggregate score of 3835 to NMMI's 3275.

Leah Wilcox shot her way to a top finish in smallbore with a score of 585. Sarah Paoletta finished second, shooting 579 followed by Rachel Glenn with a 574 and Raichelle Smith with a 571. Smith set a personal record shooting a 100 in the kneeling position, making it the only perfect kneeling score of the match.

In air rifle, Paoletta was the top finisher with a score of 386. She was followed by Wilcox with a 385, Glenn with a 380 and Smith with a 375.

"I can't be more pleased with the continued team growth and progress," commented coach George Brenzovich. "Each day they take one more step to nationals."

The Miners return to action Nov. 1 in Groton, Conn. at the Connecticut Yankee Shootout.
